Personal Protective Equipment
Every day, over 1000 eye injuries occur in America's workplaces. However, 90% of all eye injuries could be prevented if individuals by using appropriate protective eyewear. Personal protective equipment (PPE) allows employees to work in hazardous environments when essential operations cannot be altered and administrative controls cannot completely eliminate potential risks. .

If PPE is to be used at a workplace, the agency should also implement a PPE program to ensure that PPE is used effectively and correctly. A PPE program should address the hazards present, maintenance of PPE, correct use of PPE, employee training on the use of PPE, and a system to monitor the continued effectiveness of the program.

FOH can evaluate the existing PPE program or help implement a new PPE program.

FOH's Personal Protective Equipment services include:

  • Assessments of facilities and/or operations to determine if employees are being overexposed to potential hazards.
  • Job hazard analyses to examine the relationship between the worker, the tasks, the tools and the work environment. FOH professionals can prescribe safer solutions where indicated.
  • Recommendations on the appropriate PPE, for designated tasks.
  • Training on the proper use, care and maintenance of required PPE.
