Below are some tips for parents who want to help their children establish effective study habits in the new school year:
- Provide a reward for good grades and use incentives to keep him or her motivated.
- Develop a routine by designating certain times each day for homework and study.
- Discuss homework assignments and be sure they understand important goals and deadlines.
- Develop organizational skills by having children write down goals and assignments and check them off as they are reached.
- Monitor and limit television viewing, recreational computer use, and other activities which can distract from schoolwork.
- Review all homework and ask to see any feedback from teachers.
- Stay in touch with your child’s teacher to evaluate progress.
