Medical Exams and Physician Review Services

Federal agency and regulatory requirements dictate that members of the law enforcement community must meet strict psychological and medical standards associated with the unique nature of their work. In addition, Federal agencies are required to periodically review the medical status of their law enforcement personnel to ensure their health and safety on the job. It is for these reasons that Federal Occupational Health’s (FOH) Law Enforcement Medical Program provides medical screening, evaluation, and clearance services to agencies with law enforcement missions. FOH’s Medical Exams and Physician Review Services are tailored to address issues that are unique to this group of professionals.

FOH’s experienced and professional Occupational Medicine Physicians, or Reviewing Medical Officers (RMOs) provide the following services:

Develop, review and validate medical standards
Pre-placement and periodic medical examinations
Medical review for drug deterrence
Medical surveillance for hearing conservation, lead exposures and other potentially hazardous occupational exposures

FOH’s RMOs understand the unique duties of law enforcement officers. They use their understanding of an officer’s duties and their medical training to examine the health effects associated with an officer’s duties. RMOs review the results of both applicant and employee periodic physical exams and make recommendations to an agency about the ability of the officer or applicant to safely and efficiently perform arduous or hazardous duty without undue risk of personal injury, injury to co-workers, or the public. By tailoring our medical examination services, FOH, helps agencies reduce costs associated with separate or out-of-cycle testing.
