Medical Standards Services:
Development, Review and Validations
Federal Occupational Health (FOH) has more than twenty years of experience working with Federal agencies with law enforcement missions. FOH’s Law Enforcement Medical Program is designed to help agencies maintain workplace safety. One aspect of this program is the development of medical standards or baseline medical criteria for employment candidates and incumbent staff. Medical standards are established so that Federal agencies can be reasonably assured that an officer or applicant is able to safely and efficiently perform arduous or hazardous duty without undue risk of personal injury, injury to co-workers, or the public.
FOH’s Medical Standards Services include:
- A review and analysis of duties, responsibilities, hazards, and typical work environments of law enforcement officers. By directly observing officers performing their duties and interviewing personnel, FOH Occupational Health Physicians, or Reviewing Medical Officers (RMOs), are able to learn which tasks are most taxing to personnel.
- Recommendations for changing current medical standards for law enforcement personnel, based on the findings.
- A written report that documents the relationship between the information obtained in interviews and observations and the application of medical standards for each law enforcement occupation.
- A summary report that outlines findings from interviews with law enforcement personnel, as well as observations of their activities.
