Resolve to be Healthy
Here's a word of advice: If you've been working on making or keeping your New Year's fitness and health resolutions. Don’t.

Instead, commit to making small, effective lifestyle changes that can help you take charge of your health and your life permanently. If you resolve to do anything, resolve to:

Eat healthy

Eating healthy is easier than you think. You need good quality fuel to keep your body running efficiently. To eat high quality food:
  • Choose food that’s close to its natural state
  • Avoid or minimize processed and “quick” foods
  • Eat a varied diet of 12-15% protein, 45-65% fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and 30% healthy fats

Get moving

Stay active! Get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day if possible or at minimum, three times per week. Exercise should include a combination of aerobics, which gets the heart and lungs working, and strength training, which tones muscles and helps keep bones strong.

Don’t smoke

Smoking is one of the top causes of preventable death and can destroy quality of life. Smoking is associated with heart disease, chronic lung disease, and some cancers. So, quit if you smoke and minimize exposure to environmental smoke if you are already a non-smoker.

Get your zzz’s

Make sure you get a good night’s sleep most nights. Rest is vital to your body’s ability to recover from daily stress. You need sufficient sleep to keep you alert each day.

Look on the bright side

We’ve all heard that laughter is the best medicine. And it just may be true. Incorporate humor into each day. Laughter has a healthy effect on your body. Laughter releases stress-reducing hormones. A good belly laugh even exercises your abdominal muscles!
